Society pursues both cultural and social activities
.
Cultural Activities
Firstly :
Local Symposia :
The Society
has organized several symposia , specialized in
comparative literature and linguistics :
1-
Series of monthly symposia were held by the Society
at the Faculty of Arts , Cairo University , where
some distinguished speakers had been invited to give
lectures .
2-
Series of symposia were held by the Society at
the Supreme Council of Culture on comparative literature
.
3-
The Society organized a local symposium on " The
Horizons of Comparative Literature in the Light of
Globalization ", in March 2001 at Al-Minia ,
with the
co-operation of both the Faculty of Arts, Al-Minia
University, and the Center for Future Studies .
4-
The Society organized a local symposium on "
Translation and Comparative Literature ", in May
2002, with the co-operation of the Faculty of
Al-Alsun ( Faculty of Languages ) Ain Shams
University.
5-
The Society has held a series of remarkable symposia
at the Library of Cairo the Great. One of the most
recent of these was that on orientalism , given by a
group of well - selected Egyptian scholars of highly
academic standing.
6-
The Society has organized over the last few years
some specialized symposia with the co-operation of
the Faculty of Languages & Translation, Al-Azhar
University.
Secondly :
International Conferences :
1-
The Society organized the greatest international
conference ever in the Arab World on " Comparative
Literature in the Arab World ", held at the Faculty
of Arts, Cairo University in December 1995. The
Society published the proceedings in a big volume ,
in 1998.
2-
Members of the Society have participated in
conferences held by the International Comparative
Literature Association ( ICLA ), such as the Paris
conference in 1985, Munich in 1988, and most
recently Hong Kong in 2004.
Thirdly :
The Publications of the Society :
1-
The First Year Book was issued in 1991.
2-
Muqaranat ( Comparisons ) Periodical , where
specialized academically refereed papers are
published , and also some of the proceedings of the
local symposia held by the Society. The papers are
to be submitted either in Arabic or in any European
Language by both Egyptian and non-Egyptian scholars.
3-
The proceedings of the international conferences held
by the Society.
4-
Specialised selected monographs in comparative
literature and linguistics.
Social Activities
1-
The Society is most keen to hold a friendly annual
meeting for its members at a Ramadan breakfast , in
Cairo , to strengthen social relations.
2-
The Society is planning to arrange both inland and
abroad trips, at reasonable prices , for its members.
