The Society organises
several specialized symposia in many
Egyptian universities: Cairo , Ain Shams, Alexandria ,
Al-Azhar, Al-Mansoura, and the South Valley .
2- The Forum Romanum:
-
With
the co-operation of the Cultural Italian Institute in
Cairo, the ESGRS organises a monthly Forum on one of
the topics related to the field of classics, inviting
distinguished Egyptian scholars, specialised mainly in
the field of classics.
- The ESGRS has
also been inviting to the Forum distinguished
scholars from other countries such as Jean Pierre Vernant, Sergio Donadoni, Nicola Bonacasa, Enrico Rossi, Paolo Gallo, Martin Bernal and others to enrich the cultural dialogue
between East and West.
- The ESGRS devoted more than one session of the Forum to
the
Ancient Library of Alexandria . Series of lectures were given on ancient Alexandrian literature, in addition to lectures on the ancient Greek and Roman theatres, mythology, papyrology, archaeology..etc.Among the most recent
was a lecture on the Recent Discoveries of the Italian Mission in Alexandria and the Oasis of Bahrein.
- Some books written by Egyptian classicists are reviewed in the Forum Romanum, and also some books which are translated into Arabic in the field of classics.
- Every new issue of the Annual is reviewed in the Forum by
distinguished Egyptian scholars.
3- The Athenaiki Agora:
With the co-operation of the Greek Cultural Center in Cairo ,
the ESGRS organises a monthly Agora, starting in February 2005 , on one of the topics related to the field of classics. Distinguished scholars from Egypt , Greece , and other
countries are invited to speak in the Agora.
- The first lecture in the Agora was given on February 23 , 2005 , on Egyptian
Thought in the Coptic Age.
Second: Social Activities:
1- Both
inland and abroad trips are arranged by the Society to strengthen relations among members.
2- The
Society is careful to hold an annual meeting for its members at a Ramadan breakfast, either in Cairo, or Alexandria, or elsewhere. |
